Should you wash your face with soap in the morning? My morning skincare routine!

Hello Oh My Glossers! Today I wanted to share about this beauty dilemma, whether to wash your face with soap in the morning. Also I wanted to share my curent morning skincare routine. I’ve been getting asked a lot about morning skincare issues lately. Before I get into what my routine is like, let’s tackle this question of sud or sans sud to start off your day.

I’ve read a lot of articles where dermatologists say that it’s okay not to wash your face in the morning with soap. This is because sleep is the time where our skin can replenish and restore balance back to your skin. Also, if you have a solid night time cleansing routine then washing your face again in the morning isn’t necessary and it will strip away some of the good oils that your skin needs. I would suggest instead of using tap water, which can also be drying, use mineral/thermal water mists from Vichy or Avene and then go into your regular morning skincare routine. So that settles the no soap routine, does that mean that washing your face with soap is bad? No, you just have to use the right kind of cleanser. There are a lot of great mild face cleansers on the market, Cetaphil is a very trusted brand to be very mild. I never ever ever use a foam cleanser in the morning because it will strip my face and give me dry patches.

For the longest time I used the Victoria Egg Soap and recently I swapped it with the Verite Good-Morning Mild Cleanser. Verite is a cosmetic brand under the Amore Pacific group. This cleaner is suited for sensitive skin and has a pH balance of 5.5. This number is the magical number when it comes to creating a healthy and comfortable surface for our skin. A little acidic and not too alkaline. It’s also formulated with hayaluronic acid and camomile extract for a moisture boosting and calming result. As well as that, it has konjac granules to gently exfoliate dead skin cells and excess oil. You can’t really feel it like harsh scrubbing beads in some other cleansers. My skin definitely feels silky and soft after using it. Also it doesn’t feel like I washed my face because it doesn’t foam up, it feels like it’s prepping my skin for the next step. If you feel as though washing with water isn’t enough, then try a mild cleanser like this one. The conclusion is that it’s your preference whether or not you want to wash your face with soap, just make sure that it’s a mild cleanser if you do.

Quickly I’ll list and go over my morning skin ritual. So like I mentioned, I wash with the Verite Good-Morning Mild Cleanser. I like to apply it on dry skin first and massage it all over then rinse with luke warm water. Then I use my Hanyul Red Rice Skin Softener to prep my skin. After, I apply my IOPE Bio Eye Cream Youth Complete and shortly after the SK-II Cellumination Aura Essence. I’m actually almost out so I’ll have to invest in a essence soon. If I feel like my skin needs extra moisture I either apply some sweet almond oil or the Hanyul Jacho Oil. Then I wrap it all up in a moisturising cream, I switch around three different creams which are SK-II RNA Power cream (which I’m also running low on), Tony Moly The Chok Chok Green Tea Watery Cream, and the Vichy Idealia Cream. I usually wear makeup and my primers have SPF in it so I don’t really have a regular sunscreen that I use, but I do sometimes use the IOPE UV Shield Sun Protector cream.

Beauty Essentials For The Lazy Girl Winter Edition

Hey! Today I wanted to something else than a review so I’m going to list the essential beauty products catered to the lazy girl in all of us! Since it is winter this list is going to include stuff that would be ideal for the cold season.

Number 1!

A good nourishing face cream.

Skip the lotion and finish your skin routine off with a face cream. It will moisturize better than a lotion and it will help seal in the moisture from escaping throughout the wintery season and hot heaters. I’ve been using the SK-II R.N.A. Power Radical New Age cream and it’s great for Anti-aging and firming the skin. This one is a high end brand so it is a bit pricy 139,000KRW for 50g. A budget friendly alternative would be the Vichy Idealia cream which goes for 59,000KRW. I will have a review on this product soon!

Number 2!

A tinted moisturizer or a BB cream

If you don’t have the “time” to put on foundation all you need is pair of clean hands and a tube of your favourite BB cream or tinted moisturiser. It takes a minute to put on and you’ll have covered all the bases like sun protectant, primer, and foundation. It’s easy to put on and you can’t mess it up. Also you don’t have to fuss over blending, brushes, or sponges. Try the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 they have a bunch of shades to choose from that will hydrate and even out the skin tone. It goes for 62,00KRW but in the States it’s 44.000USD. :/ Not sure what to think about that.

Number 3!

A cream blush that can also be a lip color

Sallow complexion in winter is never good, so warming up the face with a cream blush will give you skin a dewy warmth rather than a powdery look that will accentuate the dryness of your skin. You can use the blush as a lip tint as well. If your lips feel too dry then just layer over it with chapstick. Stila has Convertible Colors that can be used fro both lip and cheek. It’s 38,000KRW or in the States 25.00USD. The Korean road shop Aritaum has Sugarball Cushion blushers that has a small puff inside to apply your cream blusher. It is 8,000KRW and I use the color no.3 Daisy Coral.

Number 4!

Sleeping packs

Lazy girls such as myself love to sleep so with basically with no effort you can still have diligently well managed skin just by ending your day with a general slathering of a sleeping pack cream. While you sleep it will moisturise and also deliver the nourishing ingredients to your skin and the great thing is that you don’t have to deal with peels, mask sheets, or post washing of the face. A lazy girl’s dream come true. I’ve been using the BRTC Vitalizer Whitening Sleeping Pack that costs 31,000KRW. The review I did is here.

Back-ne and/or butt-ne got you down? Read this!

Hey y’all~ it’s the weekend and this week was the official start of summer! So clearly it’s time to head to the beach or go to the pool. For some this is exciting news but for others it is a nightmare having to expose our backne or buttne. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the terms backne and buttne, I’m talking about acne/pimples/clogged pores on your back and butt. I don’t think there’s a classier way to say it. Anywho, I have a mild case of back-ne. I can feel the bumps and I feel they’re blocked pores and it’s not a pleasing sight or touch. It’s dry, patchy, bumpy. Not my cup of tea you know?

My back is usually fine in Fall and Winter but when Spring and Summer rolls around, the skin on my back reacts to the changes in climate. I’m not sure about y’all, but this time of the year it tends to get worse because of the humidity and sweat. So what I do to fight this problem of mine is that I treat it just as I would if I had acne on my face. I wash my back with a cleanser with salicylic acid to help open clogged pores, neutralize the bacteria and preventing the area from clogging again. I use the Vichy Labratories Normaderm anti-imperfection deep cleansing foaming cream, 24,000KRW at Olive Young. After shampooing and conditioning my hair I go in with this product at the very end of my shower routine to wash away any hair product off my back. I also try to avoid getting shampoo and especially conditioner on my back. I rinse with my head down so that any other product except for bodywash and the foam cleanser is on my skin. I’m not 100% sure that this works but I like to believe it does. Our skin is a really tough organ but we have to be gentle with the stuff our skin can get in contact with.

I’ve also recently bought a brush back scrubber. Sometimes it can be hard to throughly clean the middle of your back so the extended handle of the back scrubber helps me reach these places as well as getting extra exfoliation. Plus it’s a great back scratcher hahaha. I got mine at the main store Olive Young in Myeongdong for about 14,000KRW.

So if you have any backne or buttne problems, try a salicylic acid wash and try to keep the area clean from any other products that might aggravate the area. Also, remember to dry those areas as soon as you get out of the shower and use a light body lotion or maybe a dray oil spray so your skin can be moisturised but at he same time breathe. Now are you ready for summer? Try it out and see if your skin is swimsuit ready 🙂

Have an awesome weekend!
