Winged liner at Jonathan Saunders

Three things a girl should own is a classic black dress, a good pair of black heels, and a good black eyeliner. Black liquid liner is the essential of essentials in my make up bag. The make up industry has innovated the original black kohl liner in to black liquid gold! Seriously tho, I love liquid liners. I have bought and tested out tons of black liners in my life and there are some things that I look for in a good liquid black eyeliner.

First, how black is it? If its slightly transparent or grey-ish then it’s a no go. If I’m going to buy a black eyeliner I’m going to be expecting black and nothing else. Next, what kind of applicator is it? Brush pen, brush, felt tip, or felt pen? What is the range of thickness of the applicator? Think about what look you’re going for, bold or a little definition. Either way the applicator should be able to give you clean and precise line. Lastly, how long will it last? The only reason I get liquid liner is so that my lines won’t smudge, if I wanted it to smudge I would have bought a pencil liner.

I personally prefer to use a brush applicator because I every time I’ve used a felt tip pen it seems to dry out too quickly and bends out of shape or frays. Also, I like liquid liners from Japan because of the quality and I have never not liked a makeup product from Japan. They are serious when it comes to cosmetics (and sushi). Moving on… here are some of my recommendations!

1. Kiss Me Heroine Make- Impact Liquid Eyeliner 01

Kiss me is a well know Japanese beauty brand famous for their very, very waterproof mascaras. I can definitely say the same for this eyeliner as well. The applicator is a thin flexible brush which you twist off of the bottle. The formula is very smooth and the color is a soft, yet pigmented, black. It dries matte quite quickly so this could be a good thing or a bad thing depending how good you are with drawing your lines.

2. L’Oreal Super Liner- Black Lacquer

The applicator is a long thin spongy- felt tip which you twist off the bottle. The reason I like this one over other felt brushes was because of the flexibility of the brush. Other felt brushes feel too stiff for me especially when lining on a curved surface like my eyelids. The color is like black patent leather. It drys glossy and it comes off easily with warm water but won’t budge when it’s dry.

3. Bourjois Mega Liner- 01 Dark Black

This is a special one. The applicator looks like a angled flat black marker. The great thing about this is that I can make my line thin or thick and because it’s angled it’s really easy to wing it out. I recently posted a clip of me using it on my instagram @ohmyglossblog and from the video you can that it is super easy to use. The color is very black and drys to a matte finish. I wouldn’t say it’s 100% waterproof but it will definitely stay put through out the day. Another things is that it’s made in Japan~

4. Kat Von D Tattoo Liner- Trooper

This is a brush type liner which is one of my favorite kinds to use. I got a deluxe sample of this on one of my Sephora purchases and it did not fail me. The line comes out evenly, the brush is very precise and you can control the pressure to give you a super fine line or a bolder black line. It lasts through the whole day without smudging. I also noticed it was made in Korea so I know it’s going to be a quality product ;). I’m probably going to buy a full size one in the future.

Here are some of my photos of the products.
